Beyond Redemption – Kim Yu Na: It’s lonely at the top.

Kim Yu Na: It’s lonely at the top.

Okay, so I don’t do a lot of Olympic sports. I cheer for America, of course, but I only have a few that I’ll actually watch -like figure skating/ice dancing. I love watching them, along with gymnastics (I gave snowboarding a whirl, too. GO SHAUN WHITE!). Those are my sports and I never miss them.

This time around, we had some American skaters, and they were lovely, but I fell head over heels for Kim Yu Na of Korea. That girl is beautiful, just stunning, and her skating was sheer perfection. And that’s coming from a HARD CORE AMERICAN who won’t root for another country over my own, period. This girl is so impressive, and moreover, just so much fun to watch! I lit my whole building up with screams when she not only won gold, but broke records. She’s all that and a bag of fucking chips!

But, it’s lonely at the top. As usual, because she won gold and her Asian counterparts feel “jipped” (Cause, ya know, if it ain’t Japanese, it ain’t right), all of sudden there are allllll these rumors that she’s had plastic surgery to make her more beautiful (since her counterparts are NOT) and to make her body longer. (So… are we to believe that they surgically implanted extra BONE to make her arms and legs longer??)

Let me start by saying how fucking insulting that is to the Korean people as a whole. I mean, really, are y’all trying to say that there’s NO POSSIBLE WAY a Korean girl could be pretty, or pretty to that degree?” o_O Because, in essence, that is what they’re saying. Coming out of their faces with shit like, “She must have had surgery because her skin is too smooth and perfect.”

OMFGWTF?!

It couldn’t possibly have anything to do with eating right and good skin care regimens, could it?? Perish the thought! Her limbs are long? That couldn’t have anything to do with height, and inherited bone structure, could it? Her body is like that of a model, but that would have zip to do with exercising, rigorous training, and a healthy diet, right?

Puhleeze.

But, let’s look at the flip side for a second. Let’s say that we insert bones into people all the time and she’s a complete mass of plastic surgery (I’ve seen the “before” pics. There’s no difference other than she was younger and less polished. But since she’s 19, I would like to think that hair, makeup, and plucked eyebrows would come naturally. *eyeroll*). Who fucking cares? Seriously, who but a bunch of SORE LOSERS and the supporters of SORE LOSERS would give a good goddamn if that girl went under the knife fifty million times? What the hell would that have to do with her ability to skate rings around her competition?!

The crybaby-ism of this is so reminiscent of fandom, the workplace, and school. Any time someone makes a name for themselves out here, they’re beaten down for no other reason than being. And God forbid they win any accolades along the way -it’s open fucking season from a bunch of whiny douchebags. That’s what she’s going through now, and that’s why I support her even more. They can’t knock her flow, so they go for a low denominator like looks. Well, thanks for telling the world that you fuckers feel inferior and threatened over ONE little girl. *snort*

Kim Yu Na has a new fan in me, surgery or not (Though I obviously don’t believe that shit) because she’s an underdog in a world that seems to only revere a certain type of Asian (and don’t paint me as anti-Japanese, either. You wouldn’t have a CLUE as to what you’re talking about. I just don’t like asshattery and won’t allow political correctness to silence me). Plus, she had a lot riding on this. Her country, sadly, acts ass backward with her and she had all kinds of threats of her sponsors dumping her and whatnot if she didn’t bring gold. She even revealed that the times she won silver, she got hate mail. She needed this win, and she EARNED this win, so these morons need to get over it. I hope she continues to thrive and these haters can eat the ice off her fucking skates!

      Some people are just plain mean for the sake of being mean. I missed almost every single skating event this olympics, except for Ice Dance (CANADA WOO!), but I’m sure that she skated gorgeously. Who gies a flying fuck if she had plastic surgery or not, because I don’t. It’s just sad that there are people out there who would hate like that.

      Congrats to Kim Yu Na on her gold medal.

    • avatarDa Grrrl says:

      @CA

      Exactly! I don’t believe those rumors. The “evidence” presented simply doesn’t support the claim for me, but even if she did get surgery, what has that got to do with anything? o_O

      The question is, “Can she skate or not?” and she obviously can! Why not applaud a great showing and stop all the baseless (and senseless) douche-baggery? Urg!

      And congrats to your Joannie Rouchette! What a shame that her Mama passed away so suddenly, but she was brilliant under such awful circumstances. 😀

    • avatarAm says:

      Wow. Jealousy is really sad. I don’t watch the Olympics, but I feel bad for this girl. She’s so young (older than me, though) and not only is she under all this pressure to do well, but she gets crapped on by the competition? Because she’s pretty, tall, and fit?? Not cool.

    • avatarDa Grrrl says:

      @Am

      AGREED. How I even learned of this big internet envy-vomit was when I was looking for a pic to post of her for redemp. I was going to talk about how much I liked her, then I saw all that shit and it totally got me twisted!

      It really sucks when you work hard to achieve something and people look for any thread of nothing to tear you down. Such bullshit.

    • avatarLindsay says:

      Wow. They’re seriously saying those things about her? Def. Sore Losers.

      You know, I usually watch the Olympics and watch the same sports as you but for some reason this year I just wasn’t compelled to watch..strange. Oh well. ::shrug:: lol. Hope things are going well.

    • avatarDa Grrrl says:

      @Linds

      lawd, you’re going to live a long time. I was just thinking of you! How the heck are ya, girl?!

      Officially, the competition haven’t said a word (that I’ve seen), but we all know what sockpuppets are. So, I don’t doubt that this stuff started in their camp and is now being trolled all over the internet. Totally ridiculous -enough to just annoy a person that knows what it’s like.

      I always watch my iceskating stuffs, but I don’t do much else other than gymnastics in the summer. Those people just amaze me with their talent!

    • avatarkimakaanna says:

      Oh yes she is fucking amazing and I’m USA all the way but I’m glad she won gold. She truly deserved it. That’s so like dumbass haters to attack her looks and character just because she is…her, basically.

      This is just like what they did to that girl Caster Semenya from South Africa (she was with the whole track/sprint thing). She won gold so they accused her of not even being a woman. It was utter bullshit. Okay so she has a deep voice and a little more testosterone. Who gives a fuck? People obviously can’t handle defeat well. It’s damn sad and it adds to the list of why I think most people are fucking assholes.

      Yeah and I agree. Kim Yu Na is gorgeous but according to the fucking world, you can’t be asian AND pretty without surgical help. What a crock of shit. These haters can take their criticism and choke on it.

      Onto the actual sports, I only watch the figure-skating and gymnastics (but I love the track/sprint/running things lol) so I decided to try the snowboarding and it was AWESOME! Shaun White did his thing! You should’ve seen me! When they announced his score, I jumped up and down lol. Yeah the Olympics gets me amped but I can’t watch all of it. Especially curling. What the HELL is curling?

      Well I’ll catch ya later, grrrl.

    • avatarInu Hanyou Nikkie says:

      Oh, can we have the slow clap of sarcasm please? Let me just call the WAHHHH-bulance for them. So she outperforms their asses because she has mastered her body and her timing and they have to attack her looks? Real classy… real mature… I can just picture them on the ground throw those temper tantrums.

      Heck yea, it’s so much like Fandoms it’s disgusting. Seriously have these type of people have anything else better to do? I wonder if they’ll drop to the “But she slept the all the judges” lame attack?

      Then there is the opposite end – Beauty Pageants in which little girls get plastic surgery to improve their looks, older girls 15 and up get breast implants in order to compete. Go figure…

    • avatarDa Grrrl says:

      @Nik

      Let me just call the WAHHHH-bulance for them.

      BWAHAHAHA!! Oh shit, that’s hilarious! I love it!!

      And yup, that’s exactly what happened. They’re hating on her because she beat the Japanese women out of a gold medal, and I’m talking about by a huge margin. She broke a few world records in the process, and I think that’s pretty fucking awesome. They need to just get over that and stop being babies. Want to outshine her? Practice! And, Nik, she really rocked it. Her first short program was done to James Bond music and wow. She looked so darned cute and executed every move flawlessly. The longer programs were just as spectacular and she really hit a fucking homerun.

      The other girls were good, too, but she was better. Period. Now, their “supporters” (though I bet some of that started right out of the competition’s camp) are spreading vicious rumors because they’re sore losers. Yep, very, very much like fandom. It’s like, only “certain” people are supposed to win awards or get recognition (Though, really, this is fucking fandom. How much mileage do these assholes think they’re going to get?), and when someone “unworthy” does, it’s time to take up arms! Hell, don’t you know our fanfic awards and reviews are so impressive we could show them to Donald Trump and get a job?!

      /sarcasm.

      Personally, even if she had surgery, I wouldn’t care. Ever been to California? It’s a way of life over there. But I don’t think she has, and it annoys me that they’d be so petty and stupid. And I heard about the surgery on kids and the fake boobs. It’s sad that people aren’t happy with whatever God gave them. I was fortunate enough to have inherited good looks, but there are things about me I’d like to change and I’m still not going under a knife. Too many things could go wrong and it’s just too dangerous. Why ruin little babies that haven’t even grown into their bodies yet? Really retarded, given the fact that everyone has an ugly stage as they mature, so why not wait it out? *shakes head*

    • avatarDa Grrrl says:

      @ Kimmy

      Ain’t Shaun White da shit?! Oh my goodness that boy HAS IT. I was never much into snowboarding, but my ex was like, “You need to see this guy.” Absolutely impressive!

      Kim Yu Na is just so pretty and talented; I can’t understand why anyone wouldn’t want to cheer her on, knowing what she’s been dealing with and how she had the pressure of the entire country on her. I’m so happy for that girl -total fairytale story and I was giddy to see her take gold.

      I’m a little pissed at men’s figure skating, though. I feel that Johnny Weir got fucked out of a medal. His long program was fucking amazing, and he got a standing O. But Takahashi takes bronze when he FELL on the ice? Are they kidding? I will always believe that he got shafted because he’s gay and his skating style is a bit femme. Because, really, that was just ridiculous. Then, we find out that some Canadian commentators were making cracks about his costume and saying it/he sets a bad example in the sport (supposedly, they were reprimanded for that)? WUT?! What he wears has nothing to do with his talent and the fact is that he out-skated the Japanese skater, who busted his ass (and still took 3rd). Johnny’s scores were lower than TWO guys that fell during their programs. Someone needs to explain that to me. (-_________-) It’s going under the radar because our guy, Evan, took gold, but even the damned crowd booed the judges when Johnny’s scores came up. Iz so pissed about that.

      I heard about that runner. They thought she was taking male hormones. Now, saying she was a man was crazy (I think they said she was a hermaphrodite), but I could see if they were worried about roids or testosterone due to her build/voice etc. However, doesn’t everyone get tested for that stuff prior to the games? I’d like to think it would come up during testing (Unless some huge conspiracy is going on, though I doubt it). Sounds like sore losing -kinda like when Mike Phelps whipped everyone in swimming. They tried to say he was on performance-enhancing drugs, too. Really pissed me off.

      Curling is this game that started in Scotland in yesteryear, then claimed by Canada, with other countries following suit. It’s the dumbest shit I’ve ever seen, lol. But some people like it and it’s the #2 sport in Canada (with Hockey being first). The US team sucks at it, but I can see why. I remember watching a Simpsons episode once, waaaaay before I ever saw a real curling match, and they show these people sweeping ice and the announcer says something (I think someone scored) and then he goes, “Both of our viewers must be thrilled.” I laughed so hard I choked on my soda. I only watch the curling stuff (well, this Olympics) because of Chris Plys. That boy is so damned CUTE. I will only watch curling if he’s playing.

      Rawr.

      It seems now days, the only thing the media is good for is bringing everyone down. No one is ever good enough, pretty enough, clever enough. If she did have surgery for the skin and body so what? That’s her choice. She is, however, 19 and at 19, I was a rock star too! I wish I COULD get that body back! (LOL) I watched her skate and she was just an angel on the ice. I hope she doesn’t even try to justify those nitwits with an answer and let them be the dipwads they are. Petty and jealous!

    • avatarLindsay says:

      Doing A-Okay. Been really busy with school…work…Same Shit Different Day kinda thing haha, hence the bit of M.I.A-ness.

      How you been doin grrrl? Hope the olympics (and general douchebaggery isn’t getting you down!) 😀

    • avatarDangersque says:

      Well thank God that’s over. Really, I only cared about men’s hockey and that’s just because I didn’t want to have to put up with the bitching and moaning from my classmates and co-workers if Canada didn’t get the gold.

    • avatarJenn says:

      OMG! Thank you I’m Korean and I have been listening to the most RIDICULOUS shit about NuYa! I’m a dual citizen and have always been pro Americans winning but I cried when she won the gold this year! Her performance was brilliant beautiful and flawless! Thank you for saying what I have been thinking!

    • avatarDa Grrrl says:

      @Danga

      Yeah, I was ready for that to end. I saw what I wanted to see, and I was a little perturbed at some of the stuff that went down at this Olympics, particularly the death of that Georgian athlete and the way the Olympic/Canadian officials, essentially blamed the victim. That annoyed the hell out of me. I mean, maybe if opposing countries had been allowed to practice beforehand, too, he’d still be alive. Then, Johnny Weir getting screwed over on a beautiful skate for TWO guys that both FELL during competition. It’s just URG. Glad it’s over indeed!

    • avatarDa Grrrl says:

      @Jenn

      Wasn’t that the most annoying shit, Jenn?? I was so irritated by the rumors. That girl is gorgeous, and I don’t believe a word, but even if she did fix herself up a bit, what has that got to do with her ability to smoke her competition? Jealousy is an ugly thing,, and you’d think there’d be more maturity involved. I’m glad she won the gold; she deserved it, and for once, the judges got it right!

      Hehe. Glad I can be your “angry voice”! xD

    • avatarDa Grrrl says:

      @Karen

      How right you are! But I think it’s mostly fans of the competition, and to a smaller extent, the competitors themselves. There’s an awful superiority complex involved and being upstaged isn’t sitting well. And heck yeah she’s a rock star! lmao. At 19 we all were! xD She works those skates with a grace that awes and I’m proud of her. The haters can bit the big one then choke on it! xD
