Kim Yu Na: It’s lonely at the top.

Friday, 26 February, 2010

Okay, so I don’t do a lot of Olympic sports. I cheer for America, of course, but I only have a few that I’ll actually watch -like figure skating/ice dancing. I love watching them, along with gymnastics (I gave snowboarding a whirl, too. GO SHAUN WHITE!). Those are my sports and I never miss them.

This time around, we had some American skaters, and they were lovely, but I fell head over heels for Kim Yu Na of Korea. That girl is beautiful, just stunning, and her skating was sheer perfection. And that’s coming from a HARD CORE AMERICAN who won’t root for another country over my own, period. This girl is so impressive, and moreover, just so much fun to watch! I lit my whole building up with screams when she not only won gold, but broke records. She’s all that and a bag of fucking chips!

But, it’s lonely at the top. As usual, because she won gold and her Asian counterparts feel “jipped” (Cause, ya know, if it ain’t Japanese, it ain’t right), all of sudden there are allllll these rumors that she’s had plastic surgery to make her more beautiful (since her counterparts are NOT) and to make her body longer. (So… are we to believe that they surgically implanted extra BONE to make her arms and legs longer??)

Let me start by saying how fucking insulting that is to the Korean people as a whole. I mean, really, are y’all trying to say that there’s NO POSSIBLE WAY a Korean girl could be pretty, or pretty to that degree?” o_O Because, in essence, that is what they’re saying. Coming out of their faces with shit like, “She must have had surgery because her skin is too smooth and perfect.”

OMFGWTF?!

It couldn’t possibly have anything to do with eating right and good skin care regimens, could it?? Perish the thought! Her limbs are long? That couldn’t have anything to do with height, and inherited bone structure, could it? Her body is like that of a model, but that would have zip to do with exercising, rigorous training, and a healthy diet, right?

Puhleeze.

But, let’s look at the flip side for a second. Let’s say that we insert bones into people all the time and she’s a complete mass of plastic surgery (I’ve seen the “before” pics. There’s no difference other than she was younger and less polished. But since she’s 19, I would like to think that hair, makeup, and plucked eyebrows would come naturally. *eyeroll*). Who fucking cares? Seriously, who but a bunch of SORE LOSERS and the supporters of SORE LOSERS would give a good goddamn if that girl went under the knife fifty million times? What the hell would that have to do with her ability to skate rings around her competition?!

The crybaby-ism of this is so reminiscent of fandom, the workplace, and school. Any time someone makes a name for themselves out here, they’re beaten down for no other reason than being. And God forbid they win any accolades along the way -it’s open fucking season from a bunch of whiny douchebags. That’s what she’s going through now, and that’s why I support her even more. They can’t knock her flow, so they go for a low denominator like looks. Well, thanks for telling the world that you fuckers feel inferior and threatened over ONE little girl. *snort*

Kim Yu Na has a new fan in me, surgery or not (Though I obviously don’t believe that shit) because she’s an underdog in a world that seems to only revere a certain type of Asian (and don’t paint me as anti-Japanese, either. You wouldn’t have a CLUE as to what you’re talking about. I just don’t like asshattery and won’t allow political correctness to silence me). Plus, she had a lot riding on this. Her country, sadly, acts ass backward with her and she had all kinds of threats of her sponsors dumping her and whatnot if she didn’t bring gold. She even revealed that the times she won silver, she got hate mail. She needed this win, and she EARNED this win, so these morons need to get over it. I hope she continues to thrive and these haters can eat the ice off her fucking skates!

Santa isn’t a Man… It’s a Kau!

Wednesday, 2 December, 2009

So, my Kau from Louisiana sent me a package for Xmas. (We’re prone to doing that. Birthdays, holidays -we sent each other stuff) Now, I knew she was sending me the new Star Trek DVD -she knows about my love affair with Spock- but the rest was a surprise and what nice ones they were!

She sent me the first season box set of True Blood! Squee! Lafayette is SO worth owning. πŸ˜› She also sent me tons of “moo candy” (this milk candy that has cows on the pkge), and this >.> cow that sings Xmas songs. See, we have a thing about cows. Hence why we call each other “Kau”. That’s a cow from the game “neopets”, so she likes to send me a different type of cow every time she mails me something. >.>

Back to this box’s cow.

Silly story: I take this big ass cow in a Xmas stocking out of the bag. She sends me a note saying to push the button. I’m like, what button? Well, I find it on the thing’s hand and press it. This cow starts screaming this xmas song and moving its arms and stuff. <.< I screamed and dropped it, lol. It scared the shit outta me! I also have some InuYasha key chains I didn't have (He's human!!!), a gang of chocolate pies (I have a thing about these pies they make there. It's like hostess, but they have this chocolate filling, and for someone that isn't much for chocolate, I love them. <.<) Then she sent me this little replica sword keepsake from the Renaissance Fair they had in LA because I played so much Castle Age on FB. Hehe... There was other stuff in the box, too, but the highlight for me was "Somewhere in Time“. I’ve mentioned this movie to y’all before, and a few years ago, I wrote a little fic about it called “Amber”. The story is about a guy who falls in love with a woman from the past and how he manages to travel in time to her. So, the story has parallels to IY, but I loved it before I knew IY existed. The film stars Christopher Reeve (I loved that man!) and Jane Seymour. I have the DVD (but she didn’t know that) and sent it to me again, but more importantly, she found the soundtrack and the original book and sent those, too!

SQUEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!

I yelled so loud! OMG!!! The music from that movie is absolutely BEAUTIFUL and never fails to make my eyes tear. I’m so happy!! *dances* I had the mp3 of the song, but I never had the actual soundtrack, so now I have both. Funny, too, is that a few months ago she sent me the vinyl copy. She had it in her house -how odd is that that we both liked that sort of “cult classic”? It’s an AMAZING film, so I know the book will be so much better because there’s far more detail. *Hops around*

I’ve been saying for years that I was going to rewrite Amber and make it better (I wrote it all in one day in 2005, and while I got my point across, I’ve evolved as a writer and I know I can do better by it) and having the book and music really inspires me to get started. It’s one of those “Labor of Love” stories; I don’t care who likes it or not. I’m writing it for myself in homage of a film that means a lot to me. So, yeah. πŸ˜€

*GLOMPS KAU AND ROLLS AROUND*

Speaking of writing, I’m halfway through my next chapter for my new story with my OC. It’s been fun, this free-for-all that I’ve been having with it. I’m usually very hard on myself with writing. I think that’s why it takes me so long to update (in addition to the lack of inspiration). I try to get things as close to perfect as possible because I want to please everyone more than myself. It’s the wrong approach, I think. I need to write just to write, and if people like it, AWESOME. I’ll feed off their enthusiasm and use it as inspiration to make more. But even if they don’t like it, if I do, that needs to be enough for me. Know what I’m saying? Won’t be an easy rule to live by, but I’m going to try.

That said, all of you that have stepped up with reviews and encouragement for the new story -you guys have my heart. You really do. Thank you so much. It means a lot to me that you gave this story a chance, and the fact that you’re enjoying it makes it all the more awesome. It shows me that you have my back in all things -and that’s why I’m going to make it my business to finish the stories I know those specific people really want to see.

I don’t update as much as I should, but with my moving away from a lot of fandom things and concentrating more on my own sites and writing (I even pretty much dumped my facebook games, too!), I will be making more of an effort to get back to what was supposed to be fun. That means more writing (when my hands permit) and it’s all for y’all. Seriously. <33 Stay awesome. Star Trek is the Awesome.

Saturday, 9 May, 2009

So, I went to see Star Trek on Friday, and let me just say that I’m now a Spock fan for life. I mean, I liked him already, but now I fucking L O V E him. Oh man, Zachary Quinto looks HOT as Spock. So cute it’s fucking ridiculous. I don’t want to give up spoilers… but I will, so…

DO NOT READ BELOW THE LINE IF YOU DON’T WANT TO KNOW.

Okay, so let’s start with the fact that the evil guy part of the plot is rice-paper thin. I like “Hector” (he played him in Troy), but there’s no plot there, to be honest. None. This film is designed to show us how the crew came together, trust me.

Kirk took a bit of time to grow on me. He was slightly douchebaggy, at first, but so were the star fleet cadets (asshole-ish for sure), but, of course, he ends up being a smart little shit. He’s also cocky as fuck and there are squee moments when you clearly see our beloved Cappie in him. Like when he says “Kirk out.” or “At ease, men.” By the time I left, I had accepted him as Kirk, and for me, that’s very hard because I’m a hardcore Shatner fan.

Keith Urban did a fantastic McCoy. Aside from looking like him in his younger years, he just had the personality down. It was awesome. Hats off!

Sulu was okay -he doesn’t look like the real deal. There’s a part where he gets into a fencing thing with one of the bad guys and the way his sword opens -awesome, lol.

Chekov looks nothing like him and his accent was so thick that it was silly and unrealistic feeling. However, it didn’t bug me enough to steal any enjoyment.

Uhura, well, she could have been prettier. The real Uhura was gorgeous and curvy. This one is tall and beanpole-ish, but she’s not a dog or anything. I still like her with Spock regardless.

Scotty -aka- Shaun of the Dead was funny, and he spouts off a few “Scotty” lines that made me smile.

There was no Nurse Chapel, but that’s not to say that they won’t bring her into it if they want to create any kind of love triangle with Spock in the next one.

Spock. Good gravy! I accepted him the moment I saw him weeks ago, but even more so now. Not only does he look like Spock, but he acts like him with a slight touch more emotion than we’re used to, and for me, that enhanced his character. Best of all? Oh yeah, Uhura is his woman and when they kissed in the elevator (fine, it’s not an elevator. I’m not that much of a trekkie, so I don’t know the name of the thing!) the fangirl in me went fucking apeshit. That’s not the only kiss, either. πŸ˜€

Severe Spoiler Coming Up

The reason why we saw that first kiss is because she was comforting him. The bad guy, Nero, destroyed Vulcan and when Spock went to the planet to save his family, his mother was killed before they could transport her. So he was in a bad place. Uhura stopped the elevator thingy and kissed and hugged him and was telling him how sorry she was and asking him what he needed. In his Spock way, he told her he wanted everyone to do their best and she nodded in a way meant to assure him that they would, and then they kissed again. Squee.

The next time they kiss is when Spock and Kirk are about to beam onto Nero’s ship to destroy it and save the cap of the enterprise (Christopher Pike). They’re at the transport thingy and they’re, like, making out in front of everyone and Kirk walks up and he’s staring at them a little -hilarious shit- and Spock says Uhura’s first name, which is Nyota. Now, all through the movie, she won’t tell Kirk her first name. So a few more kisses in, Uhura walks away, promising that she’ll be watching Spock every moment he’s down there and Kirk goes, “Her name is Nyota?” and Spock looks at him and says, “I have nothing to say on the matter.” (or something like that, but it’s funny as fuck because it’s rapid fire. The whole theater cracked up.)

We also got to see Old Spock, which was such a treat! He meets Young Kirk after Young Spock had him kicked off the ship for trying to start a mutiny. (That’s the part of the trailer when he’s on an ice planet). Spock ends up telling him that Young Spock is emotionally compromised, so he needs to make him lose it because it’s HIS destiny to be the cap of the ship, not Spock. (He also tells him the whole deal about Nero and why he’s buggin’ out)

That’s when we meet Scotty who’s at some abandoned federation post there and Spock tells him how to get back on the ship while it’s traveling at warp (something Scotty will discover years later. Did I mention that there are all of these time travel aspects?) and when they make it onto the ship, Kirk pushed Spock’s buttons, telling him he didn’t care that his mom died and Spock beat the shit out of him. >.> But then he realizes that he isn’t fit for duty. It’s kinda sad.

Anyway, long story short, they get over their differences, end up working together to kill Nero (who is responsible for the death of Papa Kirk and Mama Spock, something that he actually went into time to achieve, thus changing some futures), and it ends with them being a real crew and Kirk being given the Enterprise as his own.

Out of 5 possible Tessaigas, I give this one FIVE! πŸ˜€

This is a GREAT movie. So good, that I’m going to see it again tomorrow! I’m absolutely in love with Spock! There’s this one scene where he’s before this vulcan council who pretty much insults him and calls his being half human a disadvantage, and I love the way Spock handles it. I tell you, “Live Long and Prosper” took on a new fucking meaning! LOL.

If you’re a hardcore trekkie looking for the second coming of Shatner and Nimoy, don’t bother. This isn’t that Star Trek. They behave like that, but this movie definitely gives them a new spin. If you’re new to ST, or don’t mind a fresh semi-departure from what you’re used to, then give it a shot.

Now, a pretty!

Spock & Uhura!

Sunday, 26 April, 2009

Geez, I use this journal more than I use anything else, including Absolution! πŸ˜› But that’s because I can just spew shit out and not care, which is always a plus. Why don’t I care? Because no one has to read it. Don’t like what I have to say, there’s the door. However! My friends are crazy cool and we have a good time together so they don’t mind whenΒ  I go off on a tangent. Huzzah!

Ah, three minutes of nonsense. Feels good.

Okay, so I was on the fence for the longest time about seeing the new Star Trek film. I’ll say now that no one, NO ONE can replace William Shatner as Captain Kirk. I love that man, lol. I used to watch the TOS reruns on the sci-fi channel, and he was all kinds of awesome! Spock was, too. (He’s like my “Sesshomaru”. A close second.)

But, I digress.

So, I was really skeptical about bothering because I think it’s blasphemy to try and make that kid Kirk. I can tell you now that after spending 40 minutes on the official website watching every clip they had up, I’m not impressed with him. He isn’t Kirk no matter what they try to do with him. Will the new ST be interesting to watch? Yes. The visuals look stunning, but he will never be Kirk.

That said, I love their Spock, which is funny to me because I didn’t think I’d like him, either. But he actually looks like Spock and I don’t know… he’s kawaii. But what also has me interested in this flick is that they seem to be playing up to a Spock/Uhura future romance, and that, I love. I never noticed before how much they toyed with that in the show. You know, the subtle flirting she’d do and such. But all of last night, instead of writing, I was all over the net looking for Spock/Uhura info, and while the pairing seems to have fans, I didn’t see as much stuff as I would have liked. I even resorted to fanfic! πŸ˜›

I found 2 authors that seemed to have several S/U fics, but, they didn’t satisfy the hentai in me AT ALL. Decently written, yes, but when a fic says M or NC-17, I expect to see smut and if that was smut, well… yeah. I’m still on the look out, though, so if any of you can point me toward some smuttastic S/U ficcage, do tell! I’m even considering writing a oneshot of that pairing just to “get it out of my system”.Β  Damn them for making me excited for any other pairing but I/K!

But even if I went there and wrote something I wouldn’t do it in my IY penname, nor would I get into that fandom. To be honest, the InuYasha fandom has soured me on others. I don’t want all of the bullshit that comes with just wanting to write my bliss without having brain cases all over me because I’ve upset their delicate sensibilities. I’d want to maybe write a oneshot or two, maybe a couple of drabbles at max, and then walk away. Because, let’s face it, I’m going to continue to write exactly what I want and you know that (at least in this fandom) it will piss people off because, you know, cookie cutter rules. And with a fandom like Trek, I can’t help thinking that they could be more canon-obsessed than this one (and who fucking needs more “medicated” people up their ass?)

But in my quiet little world, I’m going to indulge in this pairing until I tire of it. I sooooo hope they do make them more flirty in the film, though. There won’t be some big make out scene -let’s face it- but since we’re dealing with a vulcan Sesshomaru here, any teeny show of affection will be enough for the fangirls, and from what I hear, we’ll have something to squee about says one movie reviewer. I quote:

“Fanfic writers rejoice, though-there’s plenty of Spock/Uhura action to be seen!”

I admit, I squealed like a little kid. I also saw a review on LJ from someone that saw an advanced screening and lookie!

“Also, for the SF series that spawned β€˜slash’ fiction (you know, all those Kirk/Spock stories that women wrote in their 1970s fanzines, before fanfiction.net had evolved) well, this movie takes a sharp effort to end that, by placing Spock and Uhura in a relationship.”

FUCKING SQUEE.

I’ll say now, I’m not into slash fic for Trek. I think it’s yuck, particularly S/K. No, no, no…. never. But Spock and Uhura? Gosh, I want to bathe in that! So, while I still protest “Young Kirk”, I absolutely want some of that movie for Spock. Only thing missing is Leonard Nimoy’s voice, which is delish. This kid doesn’t have it, but fuck it! I can live without that. πŸ˜›

I can’t believe I just spent my whole entry gushing over Trek. >.> I’ll let y’all in on a secret: This is the only other time I’ve been wild for a pairing and that’s a little scary. That’s how it started with InuYasha…

The past….
